Diversity and EE

Up one level
This section contains information about perspectives and approaches for Environmental Education to remain effective and relevant to diverse populations both locally and globally. The Environmental Education and Training Partnership, (EETAP) (www.eetap.org) produced a book of cases called What’s Fair Got to Do with It: Diversity Cases from Environmental Educators. (http://www.wested.org/cs/we/view/rs/727 or http://naaee.org/pages/publications/index.html) The casebook helps practitioners examine how existing individual and organizational practices can make individuals from different cultural groups feel welcome or unwelcome. In addition, the casebook serves as the catalyst for an environmental education workshop that gives environmental educators the opportunity to examine their own level of cultural competency in a safe and supportive environment. The workshops help education professionals explore personal and organizational changes that are needed to share EE that is more relevant with individuals that are culturally different from their own. In addition, EETAP trains facilitators annually to deliver the EE and diversity workshops to EE organizations in their local area. In an effort to continue providing resources and a forum for those wanting to grow in culturally competent practices, EETAP and Intercambios have created these pages that will be updated quarterly with new issues and resources that we and other colleagues (including yourself) would like to share. We encourage you to contact us with your ideas, resources and comments at intercambios@zianet.com.
