Candidate’s Goals for NAAEE
NAAEE has turned a corner in the past year, with staff, board and affiliates all working together far more than previous years. I will focus on ensuring greater financial stability of NAAEE by building a prioritized fund-raising strategy. We must move away from the strong reliance on federal funds if NAAEE is to become the organization that will lead environmental education for the next decade.
My experience as Affiliate Chair also points to a keen need for programs that will strengthen the relationship between affiliates and NAAEE. Environmental Education Certification and Resource Review can be the cornerstones that serve a dual purpose of aiding NAAEE and affiliate organizations. It is imperative that NAAEE move forward in these areas over the next few years. Much groundwork has already been accomplished by highly-skilled and knowledgeable individuals. Both certification and resource review will provide a valuable service to members, which will help to make NAAEE a more attractive professional membership-based organization.
NAAEE should also continue to work toward realizing a more diverse membership. We can greatly expand representation of minorities in metropolitan areas, where representation is particularly weak.
