Commissions, Committees, and Councils

In addition to serving on the Board, there are three different ways to make your voice heard within NAAEE's decision-making structure.

Commissions >>

Commissions are interest groups of NAAEE members. Any member can join one or more commissions. They give members an opportunity to find other people who have similar interests, jobs, and needs. Throughout 2006, NAAEE President Martha Monroe has made a concerted effort to get more members to take advantage of the benefits of commission membership to enhance their knowledge and skills.

You can belong to more than one Commission. See the list >>

At the bottom of the list of Commission are links to reports from the Fall 2007 Board meeting to give you an idea of the Commission's current activities. Feel free to contact the Commission chair if you have specific questions about the Commission's work.

Joining a Commission puts you on a listserv, where members chat about how to improve the EE field and the role that NAAEE can play in enhancing the quality of environmental education.

You'll need your NAAEE login name and password to join a Commission using our online system. (Contact memberservices at naaee.org if you need help with your login name or password.)

It’s an easy, 3-step process.

Start at http://naaee.org/cgi-bin/risee/noram/mem_settings2
1) Enter your login name and password

2) Click on the appropriate commission name (or names), which adds a check mark to indicate your interest, and

3) Be sure to click “change” at the bottom of the page to implement your request.

Remember that Commissions meet at our annual conference, so be sure to look for the dates and times of the Commission meetings in the conference program and stop by for a face-to-face encounter with the people you have chatted with on the Commission listserv.

Committees >>

Committees are created by the Board to make recommendations on actions the Board should take, or carry out other aspects of the Board's work. To volunteer for a Committee, please contact the Chair to make your interest known.
See the list of Committees >>

Councils >>

Councils are advisory groups appointed by the Board for a particular purpose. Membership is by invitation only. If you believe you have expertise that would assist a Council in its work, please contact the Board Liaison to offer your services.
