How to Start a Commission
Section 11 from the NAAEE bylaws
A. Commissions are interest groups that represent a substantial number of the Association's members with an interest in a particular professional area. Commission members must be Association members, and each Commission must have a charter that is approved by the Commission, then approved by the Board.
B. New "provisional" Commissions may be established with a two-thirds vote of the Board. Within three years, a provisional Commission must be confirmed as a "full" commission by a three-quarters vote of the Board or it is discontinued as a Commission. Exceptions may be made if justification is presented to the Board for its continuance in provisional status.
C. Commission work includes networking, information sharing, development of conference and other workshops, and proposing and conducting special projects that are recommended for inclusion by the Commission in the Association's annual work plan.
D. Commission membership is open to members of NAAEE. Each commission shall have a member of the Board of Directors named as an official liaison.
E. Commission Chairs shall submit to the Finance Committee an annual work plan and budget indicating priorities, intended projects and budget requests for the coming year following procedures described in the Administrative Manual. This work plan must be approved by a majority vote of the Board.
F. Commissions shall not enter into contracts.
G. Commissions shall not represent the views of NAAEE or use NAAEE's name without prior authorization from the Executive Director and President.
