Description
The purposes of the Arts and Culture Commission shall be to explore, inspire, and celebrate arts and culture; to expand their role in environmental education; and assist in the advancement of excellence in environmental education. The Arts and Culture Commission will serve the interests of NAAEE and its members, helping to bring greater awareness of the role of arts and culture in EE and improving the quality of this component. All members of NAAEE would be eligible to belong to the commission.
Mission/Purpose/Accomplishments
Potential activities of the commission are:
- Provide a forum for professional discourse on arts and culture as they relate to environmental education.
- Offer professional development and resources for educators related to arts and culture and environmental education, including workshops and a clearinghouse for arts and culture materials.
- Promote arts and culture at annual NAAEE conferences.
- Serve as a liaison with other organizations and people. Creating linkages on behalf of NAAEE with other people, institutions, and organizations.
- Recruit Arts and Culture Commission members to serve within NAAEE on Committees, Commissions, and Councils, particularly awards, membership, and conference.
- Develop a conference strand, recruit and assist in the review of proposed conference presentations related to arts and culture.
- Sponsor pre-conference field trips, workshops, and activities.
- Create partnerships with other NAAEE Commissions for the advancement of environmental education. By way of example, a partnership may be established between the Research Commission and the Arts and Culture Commission to promote research and assist the publication of research results pertaining to the value of arts and culture within the educational process.
- Help NAAEE staff promote environmental education to media outlets.
- Preserve, conserve, and exhibit/perform arts and culture materials and practices. By way of example, assist in arrangements for a film festival, art exhibit, book signings, live performance, or folk singing.
- Promote greater cultural understanding by raising awareness.
