2008 Film and Video Contest Rules

NAAEE/Pierce Foundation Environmental Education Film and Video Contest


Submission Deadline extended: April 7, 2008

Categories

  • General – Anyone not a student/amateur, including production companies, distributors, and broadcasters.
  • Student/Amateur – Not part of a professional production company; entry was made without professional assistance.

 

Contest Prizes

  • General category 1st prize – one 2008 NAAEE conference exhibit space, discounted registration fee at the “Early Bird Student Rate”, presentation opportunity to screen film and discuss production, ribbon and certificate
  • General category 2nd prize – discounted registration fee at the “Early Bird Student Rate”, presentation opportunity to screen film and discuss production, ribbon and certificate
  • General category 3rd prize - discounted registration fee at the “Early Bird Student Rate”, ribbon and certificate
  • Student/Amateur category 1st prize – discounted registration fee at the “Early Bird Student Rate”; presentation opportunity to screen film and discuss production, ribbon and certificate


Submission Content

  1. Submissions should be positive and solution oriented, not just an identification of an environmental problem.
  2. Submissions should be useful in an environmental education classroom, whether in a formal K-12 or university setting or a nonformal education setting such as a community, government, or nonprofit program. Entrants are encouraged to view the NAAEE Environmental Education Materials: Guidelines for Excellence to determine whether the content of their entry meets NAAEE’s professional standards. See Guidelines for Excellence Web page >>. The Guidelines key characteristics are part of the judging rubric.
  3. Submissions should be in English or English sub-titled.


Submission Procedures

  1. There is no limit on the number of entries that can be submitted by an individual or company.
  2. Three copies of each film or video must be submitted in DVD format. Each copy should be labeled with the name of the entry and the submitter’s name, address, phone number, and email.
  3. A fee of $25.00 for each entry in the Student/Amateur category and $50.00 for each entry in the General category must accompany each entry and entry form. Each submission must have a separate entry form attached; however, one payment may be made for all entries combined. Payment must be made by check or money order only, made out to NAAEE; no credit cards or purchase orders are accepted.
  1. Receipt of each entry will be acknowledged to the email address on the entry form. If you would like the acknowledgement sent elsewhere, enclose a self-addressed, stamped postcard or envelope that will be returned to verify receipt of the entry.
  2. All submissions must be received by April 1, 2008.

If Your Entry is Selected

  • You will be notified by July 31, 2008, if your entry has been selected to be shown at the 2008 NAAEE conference.
  • First and second prize winners in the General category and one student/amateur winner will be invited to attend the Conference to introduce their entry and discuss its production. All persons attending the conference are required to pay a registration fee; one-day registration is offered and discounted rates for the full conference are offered as part of the prize packages. Registration information will be available online at www.naaee.org June 2, 2008.  Early bird registration closes August 15, 2008. Unfortunately, NAAEE is unable to cover travel costs to attend the conference.
