Welcome to Wichita

Letter from John Rolfe, President & CEO, Greater Wichita Convention & Visitors Bureau

NAAEE – Welcome to Wichita, Kansas

Wichita is excited to be the city that will host your 37th NAAEE Annual Conference in October – Environmental Education on the Prairie, Pioneering New Strategies.  We are ready to showcase our city to each of you and extend a warm welcome to visit the largest city in Kansas…Wichita!

Much like your efforts to create environmental stewards, we also work to create a vibrant and friendly city.  For those visiting Kansas for the first time, we assure you that you will remember Wichita with fond memories and leave with a new perspective of Kansas and all it has to offer.  We encourage you to watch for information in future newsletter issues that will provide ideas for your conference trip planning.  From the “must see and do” to the “only in Kansas” experiences, we will assist by providing you with great ideas as you plan your journey into Kansas.  We have 225 days of sunshine each year so plan on getting out and discovering our many treasures.  With an offering of 36 museums, 33 golf courses, 35 art galleries and 24 attractions, you may want to come early or plan to stay a few extra days.

From cowboy history to pilots and entrepreneurs you will enjoy discovering the real Wichita.  Experience the remnants of the rough and rowdy days with Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson or expose yourself to the entrepreneurial spirit that abides in Wichita today.  Several companies that originated in Wichita and rose to national prominence include Mentholatum, Hawker Beechcraft, Cessna Aircraft Company, Bombardier (Learjet), The Coleman Company, Rent-A-Center, White Castle, Pizza Hut and Koch Industries.  This same spirit lives on in Wichita businesses today.

Wichita is proud to be one of the “Top 10 Best Big Cities to Live”, the #1 Least Expensive Place to Live the Good Life”, one of the “Top 50 Smart Places to Live” and “The Most Affordable City in the Midwest”.

If a great selection of food and restaurants is your pleasure, you will thrive on our offerings of over 1,000 culinary delights.  Our night-time entertainment will suit all types of music aficionados.  So begin planning your time now by going online at VisitWichita.com and continue to check back regularly for new information on what to see and do in Wichita.

We look forward to seeing you in October!
