NAAEE President Martha Monroe

Martha C. MonroeMartha is an extension specialist in environmental education and associate professor in the School of Forest Resources and Conservation, University of Florida in Gainesville. She provides support programs such as 4-H and PLT and teaches communication and environmental education program development. Her research focuses on understanding public perceptions and exploring how to engage communities and individuals in responsible environmental behaviors at the wildland-urban interface. Her career spans over 25 years of teaching youngsters, facilitating teacher workshops, developing curriculum, and evaluating programs. She played a key role in the development of USAID’s EE materials through GreenCOM; coordinated programs at the Dahlem Environmental Education Center in Jackson, Michigan; taught at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point; and led the development of the EE Toolbox (a collection of resources for teacher educators) for the National Consortium for Environmental Education and Training. She holds a BS, MS, and Ph.D. in Natural Resources from the University of Michigan, where she concentrated on environmental policy, cognitive psychology, and environmental education. Martha has also had an opportunity to work internationally in Botswana, Namibia, Jordan, Russia, Tonga, Fiji, Malaysia, Chile, and Thailand. 

Constance L. Russell

Connie Russell - Research Symposium

Connie Russell is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.  Her research interests include critical environmental education, human/animal relations, and wildlife- focused tourism. Her Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)-funded project examines the educational aspects of primate- focused ecotourism, and will involve an international survey as well as case study research in Africa. In 2006, Connie was named one of Lakehead University's 40 Research Stars as a faculty member whose consistent and significant research excellence and productivity achieved at Lakehead University has been recognized locally, nationally, and internationally.  Connie is also Co-Editor of the Canadian Journal of Environmental Education.
