Research Symposium
Continuing the Dialogue: Moving into the Future October 9, 7-9 pm (reception) October 10, 2006, 8 am – 5 pm
The NAAEE Research Commission holds its 3rd Annual NAAEE Pre-Conference EE Research Symposium to facilitate discussion and collaboration among EE researchers and students from around the world.
In addition to creating an annual forum for reporting EE research, the symposium encourages conversations about various research agendas, themes, approaches, and issues. The symposium is intended to provide a collegial, supportive forum for exploration of results, methods, and methodologies, and for establishing networks. This year we will continue this tradition of spirited engagement.
The annual research symposium, unlike the more “practitioner” oriented sessions of the general NAAEE conference and pre-conference workshops, will focus strictly on how and why some EE programs work better than others, and how to document EE progress and success. As researchers, we are actively engaged in studies that range from quantitative and mixed methods approaches, through a number of qualitative traditions (such as ethnography, phenomenology, narrative/autobiography, participatory action research) and perspectives from interpretive and critical to postmodern, feminist, gendered and cultural studies. Graduate student participation is encouraged.
NAAEE President Martha Monroe will give the keynote address titled Building Bridges: The Role of EE Research in Society. She will discuss three areas in which environmental educators can collaborate with peers to achieve greater impact: Moving Society Toward Sustainability, Engaging the Citizenry, and Increasing Academic Achievement. A follow-up panel will facilitate discussion of these themes. More >>
Connie Russell, Associate Professor at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, will be the closing keynote speaker and will summarize and synthesize key symposium issues. More >>
