The William B. Stapp College Student Scholarship

NAAEE Opens Applications for College Student Scholarships to 35th Annual Conference

Stapp Scholarship Process is now closed.
NAAEE is now accepting applications for Stapp Scholarships to the 35th Annual Conference in St. Paul, MN. The Stapp Fund was established in 2001 in honor of NAAEE international leader Dr. Bill Stapp (1930-2001) to help students from around the world attend NAAEE's annual conference. The scholarships are made possible through generous donations from NAAEE members and from the Silent and Live Auctions held each year.

The scholarship will be awarded to college students based on academic qualifications. To be eligible for a scholarship you must be a full time junior, senior (3rd or 4th year student), or graduate student at the time of the conference. Special consideration will be given to students presenting at the conference.

The scholarship covers the cost of conference registration (field trips, pre-conference workshops, the research symposium and dinner cruise are not included) and a one-year NAAEE student membership. In addition to receiving the scholarship, recipients must agree to perform approximately four hours of work at the conference, such as assisting with registration, distributing session evaluations, and inputting the session evaluations into NAAEE’s computers at the Cyber Café in the Exhibit hall.

To be considered for a scholarship, please provide the following information on no more than two pages of a Word document to be transmitted via email.

  1. Name, University/College, University/College Street Address, City, State/Province, Zip/P.C., Country.
  2. Mailing address.
  3. Daytime phone, fax and email (notification will be via e-mail)
  4. Have you ever attended an annual NAAEE conference?
  5. Have you ever been awarded an NAAEE scholarship?
  6. Did you submit a proposal to give a presentation at this conference?  If so, was your proposal accepted?
  7. Provide a brief abstract of your experiences and contributions to environmental education.
  8. Provide a review of your academic record, including copies of your transcripts.  Please note that due to large file sizes associated with scanned transcripts we ask that you do NOT email those to Dr. Christenson unless you are able to compress them.  If unable to compress, please fax.  Those need to be faxed or compressed into a small file and then emailed.
  9. Have a letter of recommendation from your advisor or a faculty member explaining that you are pursuing a career in environmental education, communication, interpretation, or environmental studies emailed directly to Dr. Christenson (see contact information below).
  10. Specify how you will share knowledge and experience gained when you return home.
  11. Explain why you need financial support.

DEADLINE: Applications must be received electronically no later than August 15, 2006.  Notifications will be given on or before August 31, 2006.  If you are NOT accepted to receive a scholarship and still wish to attend the conference NAAEE will allow you to register at the post August 1 early bird rate.  Scholarship applicants will be notified by email on or before August 30, 2006.
