NAAEE Announcements

NAAEE Announcements

1. Sustainability Abounds in Wichita

The Wichita Airport encourages the public to recycle paper, plastics, and corrugated cardboard in the airport’s six recycling stations located in the terminal and concourses.. Numerous other collection points have been set up where Airport tenants can participate. During NAAEE’s conference, the City of Wichita has arranged recycling at the Century II Convention Center. Although this effort is not yet a city-wide mandate, city staff feels confident that in the very near future Wichita will be recycling and have applauded our efforts in helping the city to move in this direction.

Local farmers have been working closely with the Hyatt’s chef -- the menus they have planned are looking fabulous: Janzen Farm lamb and organic flour, vegetables and fruits from Bolte Farms and Corr and Stimatze Farm, breads by Bontrager Pastries and Perez Breads, and Lloyd’s local honey; just to name a few! Exploration Place (location for the Stapp Scholarship Auction Dinner) is contacting local food vendors and plans to adopt more local sources for meal choices after the NAAEE conference ends. They’ve thanked NAAEE for calling their attention to the benefits of “buy fresh, buy local” practices.

Consider offsetting your carbon emissions during the registration process; the Sustainability Committee worked hard to find a local offset provider for our event. It’s very easy to make your donation as part of your conference registration.

Earth Force is bringing a team of high school students who will assess the ecological footprint of the conference. The students will identify environmental issues, root causes of problems and identify key "power centers" that can help them address the issues. This project is a demonstration of the ongoing partnership between Earth Force and Staples designed to engage young people as active environmental champions.
