1. Deadline to Apply for Scholarships Approaches

Deadline: June 12, 2009
· Affordability Scholarship -- A limited number of Affordability Scholarships will be awarded to provide discounted full conference registration to NAAEE members who have lower incomes and little or no financial support from their employer. (Students and retirees are not eligible.)
· Diversity Scholarship -- Diversity is a key element of NAAEE’s formal Strategic Plan to enrich the field of environmental education. Diversity Scholarships are an opportunity to promote interaction and exchange within a wide variety of cultures and perspectives.
· The William B. Stapp College Student Scholarship -- The Stapp Fund was established in 2001 in honor of NAAEE international leader Dr. Bill Stapp (1930-2001) to help students from around the world attend NAAEE's annual conference.

3. 4imprint Grants

Deadline: Rolling
4imprint is accepting applications for its one-by-one charitable giving program. The online and catalog promotional products retailer will award $500 in-kind grants to charitable organizations in the United States or Canada. Applications are due two months before the requested donation is needed. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, employed by or be a member of the board of directors of a 501(c)(3) organization, school, registered Canadian charity, society, or religious organization.

4. Classroom Earth Professional Development Grants

Deadline: June 12, 2009
Want to learn how to teach about the environment in your subject area? Classroom Earth will award 20 professional development grants to high school teachers across the country. Recipients will take two online courses in environmental education offered by the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. These highly-praised courses will help teachers incorporate environmental topics to create interactive, science-based, and informative lessons for their high school classrooms. Through the courses, teachers can earn graduate-level credits.

5. Fulbright Scholar Program for US Faculty and Professionals

Application Deadline: August 1, 2009
The Fulbright Scholar Program offers 69 awards in lecturing, research or combined lecturing/research in environmental science, including four Fulbright Distinguished Chairs, the African Regional Research Program, and the Middle East and North Africa Regional Research Program. Even better, faculty and professionals in environmental science also can apply for one of the 144 “All Discipline” awards open to all fields.

6. Inspired by Bulbs! Educational Grant Opportunity

Submit a description of a project that features a flowering bulb planting effort with children or youth, at a school or other organization, and you may be selected as one of 10 to receive a grant of $250 in bulbs.

7. 2009 Summer EETAP Courses ~ Online

The Environmental Education and Training Partnership (EETAP) and the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point (UWSP) online EE courses and schedule are listed below.

Fundamentals of Environmental Education (FEE)
June 1 - August 21, 2009

12-week course for classroom teachers and nonformal educators who work with students and/or teachers provides the knowledge and skills necessary to incorporate quality environmental education into their instruction. $200 scholarships available. See course Web site for details.

Making EE Relevant for Culturally Diverse Audiences (MEER)
June 1 - August 7, 2009

10-week course designed to provide the basic knowledge and skills needed to make EE relevant to culturally diverse audiences. Through this course participants will broaden their perspective of EE to encompass interests and issues of concern to culturally diverse audiences, assess barriers to participation among culturally diverse audiences, and apply cultural competency skills in building relationships and partnerships with members of an audience they intend to work with in the future. $100 scholarships available. 9. Leopold Education Project Conference Focuses on Community ~ Wisconsin

June 25-27, 2009 ~ Baraboo, Wisconsin
The national network of educators of LEP work to connect youth and adults to land stewardship and wildlife habitat conservation practices. While using educational materials based on Aldo Leopold’s A Sand County Almanac, this national conference aims to create an awareness of the current state of human and ecological communities’ co-existence.

12. Water: A Living Lesson ~ Texas

July 7-10, 2009 ~ San Antonio, Texas
The 6th annual water conference for educators, Water: A Living Lesson, will provide a unique opportunity for formal, non-formal, and public agency educators to learn innovative, interactive, and tested methods of teaching water subjects to K-12 students. Over 40 workshops and field trips feature hands-on, TEKS-supportive activities, physical resources, and strategies for developing comprehensive water lessons to take into the classroom, lab, or field.

13. Coalition for Education in the Outdoors Research Symposium ~ CFP

Submission Deadline: September 14, 2009
The Tenth Biennial Coalition for Education in the Outdoors Research Symposium will take place on January 15-17, 2010, at Indiana University's Bradford Woods, in Martinsville, Indiana. The symposium will bring together emerging and established scholars from a host of disciplines and the topics stem from many contexts. Following the symposium, presenters may submit their papers for inclusion in the refereed publication, Research in Outdoor Education (Vol. 10).

14. Free Climate Change DVD

The University of Colorado CIRES Education and Outreach group is offering this free educational DVD about climate change and its effects on polar regions. Polar Visions is an exciting, visually stunning film by Ryan Vachon, about the causes and effects of climate change in polar regions. The film contains seven stand-alone segments appropriate for use in all kinds of science classrooms and informal settings from the middle level through college, and was developed to align with the National Science Education Standards across all science subjects.
