2. NAAEE & NCATE EE Standards Workshop for Faculty

The NAAEE Standards for Initial Preparation of Environmental Educators, expected to be adopted by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) in October will be used by NCATE and NAAEE to accredit college and university teacher education programs across the nation.

Get an in-depth review of the new standards, strategies for incorporating into your curriculum, hands-on activities, and more! Attend a special workshop for college faculty (#18 on the workshop list) on November 15th at the NAAEE conference in Virginia Beach.

3. County Conservation Program Awards

Deadline: November 28, 2007
Annual Trust for Public Land and the National Association of Counties awards recognize leadership, innovation, and excellence in local land conservation and park creation by county leaders across the United States. Three awards will be presented based on small, medium, and large county populations.

4. GreenWorks! Service Learning Grants

Application Deadline: October 31, 2007
Through GreenWorks!, Project Learning Tree's (PLT) service-learning program, grants up to $5,000 are available to schools and youth organizations for environmental neighborhood improvement projects that involve youth with their community. 5. Spirit of Community Awards for Student Volunteers

Deadline: October 31, 2007
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, the largest youth recognition program in the United States based solely on volunteer service, is accepting applications from young volunteers for the program's 13th annual competition. The awards honor outstanding community service, over the last 12 months, by young people in grades 5-12 at the local, state, and national level. Apply online.

6. Toyota International Teacher Program ~ Costa Rica, Japan, Galapagos

The Toyota International Teacher Program is a fully-funded professional development program for full-time classroom teachers (grades 7-12, all subjects) in all 50 States and the District of Columbia. This program will offer country-specific themes to help educators expand their professional skills, increase cultural awareness, and enhance their understanding of environmental issues around the world. 7. Toyota TAPESTRY Grants

Deadline: January 28, 2008
Toyota TAPESTRY Grants for Science Teachers is pleased to announce the 18th year of the program. Toyota TAPESTRY Grants recognize outstanding educators who are making a difference by demonstrating excellence and creativity in science teaching. This year 50 large grants and a minimum of 20 mini-grants, totaling $550,000, will be awarded for K-12 science. Apply online.

8. People, Ecology, and Development Study Abroad Program ~ Thailand

Application Deadline: October 12, 2007
The International Sustainable Development Studies Institute is now accepting applications for its Spring 2008 People, Ecology, and Development study abroad program in Thailand. Open to college and university students enrolled in US institutions, the program focuses on the links between culture, ecology, and sustainability through the experiential study of specific communities and ecosystems. ISDSI Expedition Field Courses are upper division courses which require living cross-culturally and traveling in remote areas--villages, islands, rivers, and mountains; while traveling by foot, sea kayak, or canoe. Students earn a semester of academic credit while on the program. The Spring semester includes the intensive study of Thai, as well as studies of rivers, human rights and the environment; islands, reefs and mangrove ecosystems; and ethnic peoples and forests.

9. Duke Environmental Leadership (DEL) Program ~ North Carolina

Fall/Winter 2007 ~ Durham, North Carolina
The DEL Program is comprised of an online master's degree, continuing and executive education courses, and community outreach programs. All courses are taught on the Duke University campus in Durham, NC, unless otherwise indicated and are added to the calendar throughout the year.
· November 5-9, 2007: Implementation of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) on Federal Lands and Facilities
· December 5-7, 2007: Accounting for Cumulative Effects Assessment in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Process

10. EE Association of Alabama Conference

11. ESA Special Event for Educators ~ Wisconsin

The Ecological Society of America (ESA) is organizing a special day of events and sessions with K12 educators in mind at its 2008 Annual Meeting. To be held on August 4th or 6th, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the special day for educators will augment the theme "Enhancing Ecological Thought by Linking Research and Education." To help facilitate planning for this special event, ESA needs to hear from teachers interested in learning more by November 15, 2007. A limited number of free registrations will be offered.
