2. 2008 Volvo Adventure Awards

Deadline: January 31, 2008
In collaboration with the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) the Volvo Adventure Award rewards young people creating their own environmental projects. There are two competitions for the 2008 awards. The Adventure Award is for youth, ages 13-16, working in groups of two to five. The second competition is the Great Big Bob the Bunny Cartoon contest for youth under the age of 13, to create a cartoon picture using Bob the bunny.

3. Brick Awards for Young Community Activists

Deadline: December 31, 2007
The annual Brick Awards honor young people (25 and under) in the U.S. and Canada for their community involvement. Nine Brick Award winners will receive a minimum of $10,000 in community grants and scholarships. One of the nine winners will be selected as a Golden Brick Award winner and receive a total of $100,000 in community grants to be paid directly to the nonprofit of the winner's choice.

4. Call for Young Eco Hero Nominations and Applications

Deadline: February 28, 2008
Calling all Young Eco Heroes! Action For Nature has a juried annual contest. Cash prizes and other gifts are awarded to young people (ages 8-16), who have initiated and achieved an outstanding environmental success, and whose efforts will inspire others. 5. National Wetlands Awards

Deadline: January 15, 2008
The Environmental Law Institute's National Wetlands Awards are presented annually to individuals who have excelled in wetlands protection, restoration, and education. In addition to recognizing individuals for their outstanding contributions to wetlands, the awards provide an opportunity for awardees to meet other conservation leaders throughout the U.S.

6. Science Immersion Workshop for Journalists

Deadline: January 28, 2008
The Metcalf Institute for Marine and Environmental Reporting is offering 10 fellowships for early- to mid-career journalists to attend a week-long science immersion workshop at the University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Oceanography on June 8-13, 2008. Each fellowship provides tuition, room and board, and limited travel reimbursement.

11. Guest Editor Wanted

The international journal Simulation & Gaming: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Theory, Practice and Research (Sage Publications), regularly publishes symposia on a topic of special interest, and is looking for a Guest Editor for the symposium on the topic of climate change. The guest editor should be an expert on a broad range of climate change issues, and also well-versed in a variety of simulation/gaming methodologies (such as board games, social simulation, high powered computer simulation). Above all, the guest editor should know the top authors in the broad area of "climate change simulation and gaming".

14. New Film Has an Activist Edge

Ever wonder what it would be like to live with your own garbage? In Garbage! The Revolution Starts at Home, director Andrew Nisker takes an average urban family, the McDonalds, and asks them to keep every scrap of garbage that they create for three months. He then takes them on a journey to find out where it all goes and what it's doing to the world.

15. Volunteers & Invasive Plants: Learning & Lending a Hand

This new e-learning Web site provides science-based, introductory information about invasive plants. The five self-study modules address the purpose and history of the Refuge System, how volunteers help in invasive plant management, how refuges manage invasive plants, and tips for community outreach. The program is part of a larger U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service program in conjunction with partners to engage volunteers in managing invasive species on National Wildlife Refuges.
