NAAEE’s Research Symposium: Continuing the Dialogue, Moving into the Future

Joe Heimlich, Justin Dillon, Michael Brody, Paul Hart and moderator Charlotte Clark

Tuesday’s Third Annual Research Symposium opened with a call for addressing societal issues by NAAEE President Martha Monroe, University of Miami, and closed with an appreciation of contributions from diverse research paradigms from Connie Russell, Lakehead University/CJEE. Symposium coordinator Michael Brody, Montana State University, expressed gratitude for the growth of a trusting community, allowing for the success of alternative diverse presentations such as, “What happens when research goes bad?” Students and faculty alike appreciated the open discourse about the process and the realities of EE research. Cross-fertilization of these ideas with the main conference will also help the EE research community "Move into the Future" of environmental education research.

According to Brody, "In addition to the research symposium program, the meeting provided the opportunity for a small core group of EE researchers to begin preparing a proposal to the American Educational Research Association and Lawrence Erlbaum Associates Inc. for the Handbook of Environmental Education Research. As co-editors, Justin Dillon, King's College London, and Brody led several productive in-depth discussions of the handbook development process and proposal submission planned for Fall 2007.
