Election results for the 2006 Board of Directors
The North American Association for Environmental Education is proud to announce the slate of 2006 Board members.
- President-elect--Karen Hollweg. Karen is a Science & Environmental Education Consultant. The President's term was changed from one year to two years by the Board in June 2005. Karen will serve as President-Elect for 2006-2007, then as President for 2008-2009.
- Secretary--Nicole Ardoin. Nicole is a Ph.D. Candidate in Social Ecology at the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, Yale University. The Secretary's term is for two years.
- Board member-at-large--Alison Austin. Alison is Chief Executive Officer at the Belafonte Tacolcy Center in Miami, FL.
- Board member-at-large-- Scott Fitzpatrick. Scott is Executive Director of Prescott Farm Audubon Center, affiliated with the New Hampshire Audubon Society.
Two members-at-large are elected to the Board each year. Each of the six members-at-large serves for a three-year term. These new Board members will serve from 2006-2008.
Serving as President-Elect in 2005, Martha Monroe becomes NAAEE's President for 2006-2007. Martha is an Associate Professor and Extension Specialist with the School of Forest Resources and Conservation, University of Florida.
Under NAAEE's bylaws, the president appoints one member per year to the Board. Martha has appointed Diane Pruneau, a French-Canadian. She serves a three-year term from 2006-2008. Diane is a Professor at Universite de Moncton in New Brunswick, Canada.
NAAEE's Treasurer, Brian Day, resigned that position in December when he became Acting Executive Director. The bylaws provide that the president fills vacancies by appointment, with approval of the Board. Martha has appointed Patricia Kelly to fill the unexpired term of Treasurer, which ends December 2006. Patricia is Executive Director of the Opportunities Industrialization Center, Inc., in Oklahoma City.
The Affiliates Network now has an ex officio place on the NAAEE Board, this year occupied by Steve Eshbaugh of Montana.
The December 2005 elections were conducted electronically. (Members without e-mail and members who preferred to use a paper ballot voted via regular mail.)
Continuing on the Board are:
Diane Cantrell, Member at Large, term expires in 2006. Diane is an EE consultant in Ohio.
J. Allen Johnson, Member at Large, term expires in 2006. J. Allen is an attorney and Executive Director of the Race Relations Council of Northwest Indiana, in Gary.
Sabiha Daudi, Member at Large, term expires in 2006. Sabiha is an Assistant Professor at Northern Illinois University.
Hilda Castillo, Member at Large, term expires in 2007. Hilda is an EE consultant in Santa Rosa, California.
Jane Eller, Member at Large, term expires in 2007. Jane is Executive Director of the Kentucky Environmental Education Council.
Richard Jurin, Member at Large, term expires in 2007. Richard is an Assistant Professor of Biology and Director of the Environmental Studies Program, University of Northern Colorado.
NAAEE is grateful to all of these hard-working individuals for their commitment and the energy they devote to the leadership of the Association.
