EE Teacher Preparation Program Symposium
Winter 2006 Communicator "Extra"
“Start small, and don’t give up.”
“EE became a teacher education issue in the 1970s, when the environment became an important context for what we were doing in schools,” said moderator Michael Brody, noting that environmental educator is now an emerging profession, one that in the last 30 years has experienced tremendous growth and sophistication, in large part due to implementation of the EE Guidelines.
The six panelists in this Thursday morning symposium shared their struggles and successes in creating EE teacher training programs. Noting that many programs are hard to start, let alone to keep running, “Mo” Walters nevertheless stated that her institution, Arizona State University, began with community partnerships.
“It is possible,” she said. “Start small, and don’t give up.”
