2006 Outstanding Contributions to Research in EE

Michael Brody

Nominator: Ron Meyers, Ph.D

Dr. Brody’s most recent and significant contribution to research in EE began in 2004, when he led the creation of the NAAEE Research Symposium in Biloxi, through the present, as he continues to lead this annual event. His leadership in creating this event responded to the long sought wishes of many in NAAEE, including the Research Commission, to provide those interested in research in EE with a meaningful opportunity to share our research with our colleagues. His efforts to work with NAAEE leadership, staff, and the research community to carefully plan and successfully conduct the first two Research Symposia is a significant accomplishment. Under his leadership and service, the Research Symposium has quickly become an event that truly serves the interests of all in EE. How? The NAAEE has developed a community of researchers better able to better able to understand and distribute their collective work for NAAEE leaders and practitioners. This improves the not only the quality of research in EE, but our ability to share this work with others, including EE leaders and practitioners, reducing the gap between these communities. This is a significant contribution to NAAEE, providing a new, dynamic of collaboration between communities that have needed to increase their collaboration. In addition, Dr. Brody has served NAAEE as Chair of the Research Commission, and published his research in EE journals, additional contributions that required much effort. In 2006 he published his theory of learning, based upon decades of teaching experience and research. Altogether, these contributions will leave a legacy of distinguished service that we should valorize through this award.
