EEAO has been provided consistent and ongoing services to enhance environmental education by holding an annual conference, recognizing the accomplishments of individuals and organizations through their annual awards program and providing a listserve and website to keep their members up to date on environmental education news, opportunities and activities from around the state. In the past 3 years, EEAO has increased its membership by 300% and has worked to develop an innovative fundraising plan that targets diverse funding sources.

In 2004, EEAO completed and adopted a 5-year Strategic Plan using input from all members, board and staff. EEAO has also developed new initiatives including an environmental education certification program, regional leadership development including a partnership with the U.S. EPA, North Cascades Institute, and the National Park Service to host a 12-day, "Columbia River: Headwaters to the Coast Tour." EEAO has demonstrated their continued support for the work of NAAEE by being an organizational member of NAAEE and is an active affiliate organization and serving on several of NAAEE's councils, commissions, and committees. In addition, EEAO's strategic plan has integrated national (NAAEE) goals such as increasing diversity and focusing on community-based EE and align all relevant activities with the national guidelines.
