Why should you be more inclusive?

Why should you become move inclusive?

By Lisa LaRocque

There are lots of valid reasons to become more inclusive. Some are a little more “PC”, (politically correct); others demonstrate a real value towards others and your role locally and globally.

Look at some of the possible reasons why you might become more inclusive and check the ones that are the motivators for you right now.

Next sequence these ideas with colleagues so that the reasons are listed more as a continuum from more PC or “self” driven to those that describe your values towards others and your place in working toward supporting everyone’s quality of life. There is no wrong or right answer; it’s the discussion with your colleagues that makes it rich. As Henry Miller said, “One's destination is never a place but rather a new way of looking at things”.

  • To foster innovation and well-rounded perspectives on decisions.
  • To better reach the demographics you want to serve.

  • To ensure that we promote a quality of life locally and globally –even if the environment isn’t labeled as a topic.
  • To be able to attract and retain diverse professionals
  • To support organizational goals of valuing diversity
  • To become more responsive to your community.
  • To avoid negative perceptions and experiences.
